Tohanash and Lora’s Class Notes
Refreshed from our holiday break, we are eager to jump into the activities of our new year. On our first week back we welcomed Hayground Alum and Lora’s son, Leonardo Dougherty, to work with us continuing our friendship study. Leonardo is an advocate for progressive education and is pursuing his studies at Wesleyan University. We loved working with Leonardo and showing him all the ways we can be good friends and helpers in our school community. Leonardo helped us create a beautiful book that we titled, “Kindness and Friends Forever.” We proudly shared our book with the whole school at Gathering!
Speaking of friendship, we have started a Book Buddies program with Julie and Jackie’s class. Each week the big kids will pick out special books to read to us. We look forward to building these relationships with our older friends throughout the rest of the year.
In other exciting news, Julie and Jackie’s class are not only our new book buddies, but they have made new custom cardboard toys for our classroom. We had a chance to test drive their creations last week, and just today we received delivery of a school bus, airplane and castle.
Music class with Hudson Music continues to be one of the highlights of our week. We are exploring percussion instruments including the ocean drum, rain stick, frame drum, metallophone and xylophone (among others!) with Music Mike. We are looking forward to a performance on Soul Food night in March. More information to come.
We continue to explore the outdoors. Ask your child about snow painting and ice babies.
On these cold days we really appreciate the snowsuits, boots, mittens and hats that keep us cozy and ready to play no matter the weather!
